VVV Residency // Nothing's Beautiful From Every Point of View 2021
In February 2021 I took part in an artists residency working with Visual Container TV and Vega Punk. I continued researching Guernsey history and found that the local seafood delicacy called Ormers, more commonly known as 'Abalone', have been harvested nearly to extinction not only in the channel islands but around the world.
I watched some cookery videos for abalone and found them very violent and became interested in how, by removing the context of a kitchen the actions are unacceptable. I looked at sweetening imagery to make it more palatable, or to create a strong contrast between the original images and the sweetened ones.

To create my video I used Vaporwave and retro gaming aesthetics to sweeten appropriated video clips from cooking shows, through the video the layers of sugar get stripped away leaving the bloody reality of human violence.

This piece was involved in a group online exhibition on Visual Container TV from 17th February to the 17th March 2021. In February-March 2022 it was also exhibited in Naples at SuperOtium.

This project was the very beginning of my extended project Galactic Gastropods and provided an experimental space to learn Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro.
