Cor Shapin! 2020
This is a continuation of my work investigating my own family history on the small island of Guernsey and how other people not from the Island view us. This piece was later incorporated into Digital Island along with the video Baot Allai.
This specific video grew from the superstition in Guernsey that you have to curse and shout at herbs or vegetables youre planting on your property to help keep bad spirits away and help them grow bigger. This belief in bad spirits being held to account for blight, moulds, infections and illness among other things, is so far removed from our modern day perspective that I wanted to try and put myself in my ancestors shoes and start to see everything as a potential threat from unknown beings.
